Passages
A passage is an architectural passageway, and it is also an excerpt from literature or Scripture. In this dual sense I use the letter forms as elements of grill work design for gates. Opening up spaces from the dropped-out letters and closing the spaces between words results in a uniform pattern of light and dark that resembles a screen. Every passage has a unique abstract “texture” of positive and negative space. But at the same time, very literal imagery is evoked by the text itself.
